Victoria Vassilenko was born 1992 in Burgas, Bulgaria. She comes from a family of musicians and graduated from the Liubomir Pipkov National School of Music in Sofia under the tuition of Antonina Boneva (1999-2003) and Professor Stella Dimitrova-Maystorova. Since September 2011 she has been a student at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, Spain, in the piano class of Professor Dimitri Bashkirov. Since 2014 she is also a student in New Bulgarian University. In June 2013 she won the prize for the most successful student of the year in the class of Professor Bashkirov, given to her personally by Her Royal Highness Queen Sofia of Spain.
Victoria is a winner of many awards, most of which being first prizes, as well as many special prizes from international piano competitions in Bulgaria, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic and England. In November 2012 she won the second prize (no first prize has been awarded in the competition) in the James Mottram International Piano Competition (Manchester, UK). She gave a great number of recitals, among others in Vienna (2008) and New York (2010). Victoria has been a soloist with a number of orchestras in Bulgaria and abroad: the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Liverpool, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra (Chicago, USA), Classic FM Orchestra, BNR Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Emil Tabakov), Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and many more.
She won the Cristal Lyre award for The Best Young Musician twice – as a soloist in the 2007-2008 concert season and as a chamber music performer in the 2011-2012 selections. She was nominated for this prize in 2013 as well. In January 2009 she won the big prize in the Arts category of the Dimitar Berbatov foundation. In July 2009 she took part in the Musica Mundi chamber music course and festival in Brussels, Belgium, where performed as soloist of the Musica Mundi chamber orchestra, conducted by Maxim Vengerov. She was invited to the summer event again in 2010 and 2011.
Victoria took part in many well-known international music festivals and academies, for instance the Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria), Musica Mundi, Santander Music Academy 2012, SIPO (Portugal), Villa Medici Giullini (Italy), Young Classic Europe(Germany), Apolonia, ”ofia Music Weeks, Days of the Music in Balabanov’s House (Plovdiv), Sofia Music Summer, Canetti and “March Music Days (Russia), European Music Festival, Varna Summer Festival, and others. In 2011 she was sponsored by ASISA to record a CD in Spain with Johannes Brahms’ first piano trio and the Four Seasons by Astor Piazzola with Atanas Krastev (violoncello) and Eri Masaoka (violin).
Mrs. Vassilenko made numerous recordings and took part in broadcasts of the Bulgarian National Television and Radio and the Classic FM United Kingdom radio station. In Bulgaria she is a concert artist of Cantus Firmus Music Agency. She participated in masterclasses wirh Dimitri Bashkirov, Dmitri Alexeev, Michail Voskresensky, Naum Grubert, Boris Berman, Paul Badura-Scoda, Plamena Mangova, Boyan Vodenicharov; chamber music: Ferenc Rados, Alexander Bonduryanskii, Elena Ashkenazy, Gunter Pichler, Franz Helmerson, Ivry Gitlis and others.
