Arcadi Volodos auf dem Klavierfestival Ruhr 2020

Muzio Clementi
Sonata No. 5 in F sharp minor op. 25

Franz Schubert
Sonata No. 17 in D Major op. 53 D 850 “Gasteiner”

At the onset of his career, Arcadi Volodos was hailed as “the new Horowitz”. The super-virtuoso used to astound his audiences by breezing through absurdly difficult passages as if they were mere promenades on the keys. But Volodos, born in Leningrad and trained at the conservatories of Moscow, Paris, and Madrid, is also a sophisticated, sensitive artist. The Berliner Tagesspiegel, for instance, once hailed him as a “performer of soft notes”; after one of his appearances at the Munich Herkulessaal, the Süddeutsche Zeitung enthusiastically headed its review with the title “Poetry Instead of Posing”. We look forward to a superlative piano recital!
