She has been living entirely for the sake of music – ever since she was three. That early decision eventually catapulted Khatia Buniatishvili into the major league of international pianists. Oleg Maisenberg noticed her talent very early on and recommended that she take the courageous step of moving from the Republic of Georgia to Vienna. Khatia Buniatishvili stands out from the mainstream with her bold interpretations: at certain moments she ventures into breathtaking virtuosity, while at others she sinks into lyrical reverie and the piano begins to sing. The emotional impact of Khatia Buniatishvili’s art is just as much due to her precise preparation as to her spontaneous abandon. With such suggestive power she wants to encourage audiences to listen more closely. “We sometimes concentrate our attention too much on what we see in front of us”, she remarks. “But our imagination can take us far beyond what is presented to us, for instance, on television.” Her life’s objective is to use the power of music to resist those tendencies.
