Festspielhaus

The Ruhrfestspielhaus was built between 1960 and 1965 and has been the main venue for the annual Ruhr Festival since its opening. It is located on the Grüner Hügel, a natural hill in the city garden. From 1996 to 1998 the Ruhrfestspielhaus was converted into a congress and conference venue. The conversion included, above all, a modern, extensively glazed porch. In 2001, the conversion was awarded the German Architecture Prize. In front of the main entrance is the sculpture “Große Liegende Nr. 5” by Henry Moore.
