Zeche Zollern is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the most beautiful collieries in the world. After the successful launch of our Youngsters series, we are now integrating this magnificent setting even more closely into a comprehensive cultural experience. Here, you will not only get to know outstanding young pianists but also explore the extraordinary colliery site with its iconic brick buildings and Art Nouveau portals through guided tours and a snack with drinks.

On Saturday and Sunday, two concerts are scheduled each day: Jeneba Kanneh-Mason and Arsenij Moon will perform on Saturday and, like Anna Geniushene and Alexander Gadjiev, who will be heard on Sunday, are considered “rising stars.” Let yourself be inspired by Zeche Zollern and wonderful concerts in a holistic cultural experience!

What do Arsenij Moon, Alfred Brendel, and Martha Argerich have in common? They all owe their careers, at least in part, to their successful participation in the International Busoni Competition, from which Arsenij Moon, born in St. Petersburg in 1999, emerged as the clear winner in 2023. In fact, it had been three decades since all jury members had unanimously agreed on the prize winner! For his performance at the “Castle of Work,” as Zeche Zollern is also known due to its representative architecture, the pianist has chosen a program that can only be mastered through sheer musical heavy labor: Not only Ravel’s “Gaspard de la nuit”, but also Alexander Scriabin’s “24 Préludes” rank among the most technically and musically challenging pieces ever composed for the piano.

Arsenij Moon

“Arsenii Moon is highly gifted. He is an extraordinary virtuoso capable of capturing the listener’s attention with a fascinating and breathtaking story. He is equally at home with the deepest pages of Bach as well the transcendental etudes of Liszt and mazurkas of Chopin.”
Sergei Babayan
