Praised for her innate musicality and overwhelming sensitivity combined with a remarkable instrumental technique and brilliance of sound, Martina Consonni has established herself as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation.
She made her debut at the age of ten with the Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, and has since then been in international demand as both soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in prestigious venues such as Konzerthaus and Philharmonie in Berlin, Wigmore Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Cittadella in Lugano, Museo del Violino in Cremona, Debussy Museum in Paris, Sala Ateneu in Bacau, St. Stephen Church in New York, Parco della Musica in Rome, Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna, Forum Casals in Kronberg, Filharmonia Narodowa in Warsaw.
She is a regular guest at international festivals including Rheingau Musik Festival, Kronberg Academy Festival, Heidelberger Klavierwoche, Debussy Festival Paris, MiTo Settembre Musica, Bologna Festival, Amiata Piano Festival, Gravedona Chamber Music Festival, Lerici Music Festival, Chamber Music Connects the World, Trame Sonore, Perugia Musica Classica, Società dei Concerti Milan, Musica con Le Ali. Her love for chamber music, enriched by a strong natural aptitude, has led her to share the stage with great instrumentalists, including Steven Isserlis, Tabea Zimmermann, Enrico Dindo, Enrico Bronzi, Francesca Dego, Adrian Brendel, Francesco Dillon, Diyang Mei. She has collaborated with conductors such as Balan, Gelmini, Kessick, Boni, Bellisario and Terreni and with institutions such as the Orchestra Sinfonica del Lario, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Alessandria, the Orchestra da Camera di Imola and the Orchestra Giovanile Pisana.
From early age, her extraordinary musical talent allowed her to win more than 55 grand-prizes in international competitions, including Muzio Clementi Competition, Grand Prize Virtuoso in London, Bruno Bettinelli Competition, Franz Terraneo Prize, Casella Prize at the prestigious Premio Venezia at the Teatro La Fenice. More recently, she was the winner of the Daniele Gay Prize as best young Italian talent and the prestigious Roscini-Padalino Prize by Perugia Musica Classica. She is a laureate of the Fondation Gautier Capuçon, thanks to which she will release her first CD for Warner Classic in 2023 and she has also won scholarships from the De Sono Association in Turin and the Freunde Junger Musiker Berlin. She has made several recordings for Rai Radio Tre, Venice Classic Radio, 2R digital classics and for Bartok Studio’s independent label Movimento Classical.
At the personal invitation of Sir András Schiff, in 2023/24 she will participate in his ‘Building Bridges’ project through a series of solo recitals at prestigious festivals throughout Europe. She will also make her debut with Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich conducted by Holly Choe and Chamber Orchestra of Europe conducted by Sir Andreas Schiff.
Born on October 16, 1997 in Como, she graduated in piano with honors at the early age of fourteen, and then continued her studies with Enrico Pace at the International Academy ‘Incontri col Maestro’ in Imola.
She obtained two soloist Master’s Degree with the highest honors at the Pavia Conservatory and at the HMTM in Hannover with Professor Arie Vardi and a Master’s Degree in Chamber Music with top marks at the National Academy “Santa Cecilia” in Rome.
She has been selected to participate in numerous masterclasses, meeting musicians of international renown such as Daniel Barenboim, Kirill Gerstein, Steven Isserlis and Christopher Eschenbach.
She is now one the four piano student selected for the Sir András Schiff Performance Programme at the Kronberg Academy, generously funded by the Henle Scholarship endowed by the Horizon Foundation, and she is also attending the Artist Diploma at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin with Sir András Schiff.
