Arcadi Volodos auf dem Klavierfestival Ruhr 2020

Johann Sebastian Bach
The Well-Tempered Piano II BWV 870-893

The Finnish-Cuban pianist Anton Mejias is someone whose stringent interpretations you can rely on.

A gentle, languid smile plays around his face. Chocolate-brown eyes and dark clothing deepen the mysterious, warm aura. His performance? Physical, voluminous, spherical. As if he were moulding a ball of sound from the very first note and constantly expanding it. Above all, he lends great expressiveness to works characterised by polyphony. He skilfully manoeuvres polyphonic strands of notes through his cosmos. There is no trembling, no doubting, no hesitation. But always the greatest sensitivity. It is not surprising that he is obsessed with Johann Sebastian Bach.
