He is a “modern traditionalist” who has one foot firmly in the jazz tradition and the other in modernity. He plays the stride piano style of the 1920s as skilfully as modern jazz, and standards as inspiringly as his own compositions. He aptly calls his 2021 album, on which he seamlessly bridges the gap between historical and modern styles, “Future Stride”. As the follower numbers of his video stream “Live from Emmet’s Place” show, he combines old and new in a way that resonates: from 1.6 million in January 2021 to 11.4 million by April 2022.
