In 2020, Matthias Goerne sang at the Ruhr Piano Festival with pianist Jan Lisiecki, celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a selection of lieder. Now the baritone returns with his favorite repertoire: already in the 1990s, he had opened a new chapter in vocal interpretation history with his participation in the Schubert CD Edition. His recordings are always the result of intense, profound collaborations with preeminent duo partners: widely admired pianists and striking artistic personalities, each one of them fulfilling a role much larger than that of mere accompanist. These congenial lied duos never cease to delight classical music audiences with unforgettable listening experiences. Since 2018, Goerne has been performing particularly often with pianist Seon-Jin Cho: a fortuitous musical collaboration, since Cho is likewise widely admired for his profound, sensitive musical approach. The laureate of the 2015 Warsaw Chopin Competition is by no means intimidated by the fact that Goerne is as demanding as he is meticulous. We can all look forward to this meeting of musical minds on equal footing: they share a lifelong passion for artsong.
