What a thrilling musical family! The German weekly DIE ZEIT once wrote that the British Kanneh-Mason siblings are “something like the Jackson Five of classical music”, except that they are seven, not five. They have long surpassed the status of having been YouTube stars and participants in “Britain’s Got Talent”. Four of them are now studying at the legendary Royal Academy of Music in London. Both 23-year-old Isata and her younger brother, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, are embarking on an impressive international career. Isata Kanneh-Mason’s début album with works by Clara Schumann was released in the summer of 2019 to widespread critical acclaim. Now the young virtuoso, praised by music critics for her “wonderful variety of playing”, will perform for the first time at the Ruhr Piano Festival.
