Born in South Korea, pianist Yunchan Lim triumphed at the renowned Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in June 2022 as the youngest participant ever to win the Gold Medal. “Yunchan is that rare artist who brings profound musicality and prodigious technique organically together”, remarked conductor Marin Alsop who also served as Jury Chair. For his first recital at the Ruhr Piano Festival, Yunchan Lim has selected a highly variegated programme spanning a vast array of periods and styles from Orlando Gibbons, one of the most outstanding masters of early church music, to the three-part inventions of Johann Sebastian Bach and the music of the two Russian masters Sergey Rachmaninov and Alexander Scriabin. This will surely be a début to remember, one which we are eagerly awaiting!
