What power, what depth radiates from the playing of Mariam Batsashvili, born in Tbilisi in 1993!

Like so many great pianists from Georgia, she initially studied in her home country. At the age of 18, she won first prize at the Franz Liszt Competition for Young Pianists – and thus a place in Grigory Gruzman’s piano class in Weimar. A great teacher from whose Liszt expertise Batsashvili benefited early on: in 2014, at the age of 21, she won the Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht. There she impressed not only with her stupendous touch, but also with a world of expressive nuances that is unrivalled.
