Krystian Zimerman travels with his own grand piano because, as the Polish-Swiss pianist explains, he also brings his own toothbrush. With passionate meticulousness, he tunes his piano and intensely adapts to each space. In unfamiliar acoustics, he has the hall measured. In weeks, sometimes years of study, he meticulously gauges the inner vibrations of his programs. One holds their breath when he takes the stage because it is known: here, one is part of a meticulously crafted magic down to the smallest detail. Krystian Zimerman promises, “Music is emotion in time,” and he fulfills this promise at each of his rare performances.
