The world of timbres we encounter in historical keyboard instruments is vast and variegated, as pianist Andreas Staier well knows. The term “historical performance practice” may sound austere, but audiences know they can expect thrilling music experiences in the hands of this widely hailed specialist in the area of harpsichords and fortepianos. For his thirteenth concert at the Ruhr Piano Festival, Staier will once more prove himself an enthusiastic discoverer of new sonorities, thanks to his meticulous respect for every detail of ornamentation and pedaling. His performances are thus as sensational as they are convincing. Andreas Staier plays a fortepiano from the Edwin Beunk collection, built according to a model by Conrad Graf: an instrument with a lush, mellow, warm sound. He will thus throw new light on Mozart’s profoundly moving C Minor Fantasia as well as on late works by Haydn and Schubert.
