The Tingvall Trio celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.

Comprising the Swedish pianist Martin Tingvall, Cuban double bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo, and German drummer Jürgen Spiegel, the trio has long been based in Hamburg and is one of the most successful piano trios in the country, with numerous awards and top rankings in jazz charts. Their album for the anniversary year was dedicated to birds, the “musicians of nature,” as Tingvall puts it. “They surround us every day with their music and can be incredibly inspiring.” He and his partners drew inspiration from this for pieces with titles such as “Woodpecker,” “Humming Bird,” or “Birds of Paradise.”
