The great Arthur Rubinstein praised Janina Fialkowska’s playing on the occasion of the renowned piano competition named after him, calling her “a born Chopin interpreter”. That is indeed what the audience in Dortmund felt when they attended her Ruhr Piano Festival recital in 2020. In the daily Ruhrnachrichten, Jutta Gass praised Fialkowska’s “vivid music of the soul” as “a prime example of elegant, French-style piano playing, awash in sonorities.” Writing for the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, Klaus Albrecht was thrilled to have witnessed “a true great moment of piano playing: Chopin’s spirit flows out of her in each melodic phrase.” For her third recital at the Ruhr Piano Festival, Fialkowska naturally features Chopin once again in her programme; with her fine sensitivity for phrasing and dynamics, combined with her crystal-clear, poetic timbre, she will likewise cast a spell on the audience in interpretations of Schubert piano sonatas.
