Sergei Rachmaninov Six Morceaux op. 11 for piano four hands | Suite Nr. 2 op. 17 for two pianos
Igor Strawinsky Le Sacre du printemps (Version for two pianos)

Ever since the two Dutch siblings Lucas and Arthur Jussen gave their first performance at the Ruhr Piano Festival in 2018, they have embarked on a tremendous career: despite the abundance of young, perfectly coordinated piano duos on today’s musical scene, these two possess something special. The two “human fireworks” (Lars von der Gönna in Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung) not only seem to be communicating with one another by telepathy; they also have an extraordinary sense of timbre, allowing them to produce a “sound that is addictive” (von der Gönna). “Not often does one hear music for piano four hands performed as of one breath as here”, wrote Julia Gass in the Ruhrnachrichten daily in 2019. The two brothers return to the Festival for the third time, featuring works by Rachmaninoff along with the piano version of Stravinsky’s fabulous Rite of Spring.

Informations

Lucas & Arthur Jussen

Lucas and Arthur Jussen are among the most sought-after piano duos of our time. In view of their illustrious international career, one could remark that the Jussen brothers (30 and 26) are the Netherland’s pre-eminent ambassadors for classical music. With their energetic, almost symbiotic playing, their great refinement of sound and gripping interpretations, they are praised vigorously by press and audiences alike. ‘It is like driving a pair of BMWs’, exclaimed conductor Michael Schønwandt about the two pianists after directing them in concert.
