It comes as no surprise that piano duos are often formed by siblings. The advantage of having made music together since childhood may explain something about the breathtaking, harmonious musical rapport bordering on telepathy that fascinates audiences in the recitals given by the two young Dutch brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen. The Westdeutsche Zeitung describes them as “two human firecrackers.” Apart from their mesmerizing playing, the two brothers’ curiosity to explore new musical territories is likewise enthralling, as, for instance, when they perform the world première of a new piece by German composer Jörg Widmann on the occasion of their sixth appearance at the Ruhr Piano Festival, which has commissioned the work.

Informations

Lucas & Arthur Jussen

Lucas and Arthur Jussen are among the most sought-after piano duos of our time. In view of their illustrious international career, one could remark that the Jussen brothers (30 and 26) are the Netherland’s pre-eminent ambassadors for classical music. With their energetic, almost symbiotic playing, their great refinement of sound and gripping interpretations, they are praised vigorously by press and audiences alike. ‘It is like driving a pair of BMWs’, exclaimed conductor Michael Schønwandt about the two pianists after directing them in concert.
