Arcadi Volodos auf dem Klavierfestival Ruhr 2020

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy:
Overture to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” op. 21
Concerto for two pianos and orchestra in E major MWV 05

Sergei Prokofiev:
Suite from: Romeo and Juliet op. 64

Zugabe:
Igor Roma: “Strausseinander” – Paraphrase über Johann Strauss’ „Fledermaus“ für zwei Klaviere
Written when the boy wonder was only 14, the two concertos for two pianos testify to Felix Mendelssohn’s early maturity as a child prodigy: three years afterwards, he would deliver another stroke of genius, the likewise precocious Overture to a Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is hard to believe one’s ears when one hears the two piano concertos, and the young piano duo Lucas and Arthur Jussen will perform them for the Ruhr Piano Festival with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Wuppertal. Arthur Jussen was also only 14 years old when he made his first recording for Deutsche Grammophon along with his brother Lucas, three years his senior. In the meantime, it would be hard to imagine today’s international piano music scene without them. The two siblings from the Dutch town of Hilversum thrill their audiences time and again with their innovative insights into piano duo repertoire and their fresh interpretations brimming with verve and esprit – already for the fifth time at the Ruhr Piano Festival!

Informations

Lucas & Arthur Jussen

Lucas and Arthur Jussen are among the most sought-after piano duos of our time. In view of their illustrious international career, one could remark that the Jussen brothers (30 and 26) are the Netherland’s pre-eminent ambassadors for classical music. With their energetic, almost symbiotic playing, their great refinement of sound and gripping interpretations, they are praised vigorously by press and audiences alike. ‘It is like driving a pair of BMWs’, exclaimed conductor Michael Schønwandt about the two pianists after directing them in concert.
