György Ligeti: Études pour piano (selection), Three songs for voice and piano (from: Early songs) and piano works by other composers

Inspired by a multitude of sources, György Ligeti combined many different spheres of knowledge and imagination in his music. He thus sought inspiration in Chopin, Debussy, and traditional music of different world cultures when he wrote his highly virtuosic series of piano études. Now a group of pupils from all five schools in Duisburg-Marxloh have joined forces in an interdisciplinary project where they explore Ligeti’s vast worlds of imagination. Directed and motivated by Yasha Wang, Vassos Nicolaou, and Sven Hansen, they have created a joint project featuring dance, music, and stage design. Pupils of primary schools will also present their choreographies based on Ligeti’s early songs. For this presentation, the children can count on the participation of two outstanding Ligeti performers: pianist Fabian Müller and soprano Sarah Maria Sun.

Fabian Müller

During the last seasons, Fabian Müller could establish himself as one of the most remarkable German pianists of his generation. He caused a great sensation at the International ARD music competition in Munich 2017, when he not only won 2nd prize in the overall ranking, but was awarded with not less than four additional prizes: the audience prize, the Brothers Busch award, the special prize Genuin classics as well as the Henle Urtext award. The Süddeutsche Zeitung commented on his festival performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3: “This was played eminently clear, transparent, exciting in each phrase and every single tone. To play with such a controlled and round touch, but with fine expression and sense for structure and tension curves, is a stroke of luck.”
