Karol Szymanowski Mazurkas op. 50 (selection)
Béla Bartók Bagatelles op. 6
and works by Johann Sebastian Bach

Two things can be recognised as constants in Piotr Anderszewski’s artistic life. Firstly, the fact that he is not only able to play Mozart, but also (and above all) the works of his other pillar saints Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Szymanowski with the same unobtrusive, poetic urgency and sensitivity. And secondly, his close ties to his native Poland.

This is also expressed in the choice of repertoire. In addition to the aforementioned household gods, there is one composer who is particularly close to his heart: Fréderic Chopin. In 2016/17, Anderszewksi turned his affection for his Polish homeland into a film and put himself behind the camera: “Warsaw Is My Name” is an unashamed declaration of love for the city of his birth, a cinematic retrospective that does not, however, leave out the darker sides of life and evokes images of great longing in some passages. Once you have seen this film, you understand even more about the aesthetic vision Anderszewski’s play follows: It is the approximate world that interests him, the space between things, the unsaid, perhaps also the unsayable, the unheard, perhaps also the unheard, that locus amoenus where dreams live and where singing still helped.
