Born in Venezuela’s capital Caracas, Sergio Tiempo received his first piano lessons from his mother, the pianist Lyl Taylor. Later, two legendary mentors accompanied the start of his international career: Martha Argerich, with whom he has performed several times at the Ruhr Piano Festival, and the Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire.

Precision and passion in musical interpretation characterize the “thoroughbred virtuoso” (Berliner Morgenpost). He brings rarely performed works by South American composers such as Astor Piazzolla and Heitor Villa Lobos to Moers, which combine joie de vivre and tango melancholy in an inimitable way. Frédéric Chopin’s great Sonata in B minor is also on his multifaceted concert program.

Sergio Tiempo

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Sergio Tiempo began his piano studies with his mother, Lyl Tiempo. Whilst at the Fondazione per il Pianoforte in Como, Italy, he worked with Dimitri Bashkirov, Fou Tsong, Murray Perahia and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He continues to receive frequent musical guidance and advice from Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire and performs regularly with fellow-countryman and friend Gustavo Dudamel.
