In August 1923, a number of prominent artistic creators from different disciplines gathered for a special event in Weimar. A series of exhibits, experimental stage works, and concerts were held to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Bauhaus school at the Staatliche Hochschule, with its renowned interdisciplinary approach. Now, within the framework of the Festival’s focal theme “Cosmos 1923: Music in the Age of Extremes”, you can explore the music and art of the early 1920s in a three-part event. The inaugural lecture focuses on the multilayered connections among the different artistic disciplines of those times. Members of the Folkwang Museum Education Team will then offer a special guided tour of the museum collection, throwing light on major developments of that period by highlighting selected artworks, including some from the museum depot that are normally not accessible to the public. The event closes with a recital by Munich pianist Yaara Tal, who has conceived a multifaceted programme evoking a series of localities: we can thus expect many fascinating discoveries from the year 1923.
