Joseph Haydn Sonata in G major No. 54 Hob. XVI:40
Ludwig van Beethoven Sonata No. 21 in C major op. 53 “Waldstein”
Franz Liszt Nuages gris S.199 | Sonata in B minor S.178

“A piano, a piano tuner, and a coconut opener”: this was Alexander Ullman’s response to the desert island question. In another interview he stated that “the soul of a good piano” is what inspires him the most in life. No doubt that the young musician lives entirely for the piano and its music. Born in London, he has been awarded First Prize at two competitions devoted to Franz Liszt: 2011 in Budapest, and 2017 in Utrecht. And so, it is no wonder his programs often orbit around Liszt’s music. This time he will be bringing the B Minor Sonata to Mülheim, in an interpretation featuring as much virtuosity as intelligence, and as much energy as subtlety.
