Joe Hisaishi: A Walk In The Skies (aus der Filmmusik zu Das wandelnde Schloss)

What inspires Mona Asuka above all are her personal experiences and the moments on stage when she feels the immediate joy of her audience.

Time and again, she creates points of contact that also inspire a young audience. For example, when she talks about her passion for baking in a video series for Bayerischer Rundfunk and uses it to build a bridge to music. Since her recital debut at the Ruhr Piano Festival in 2008, Mona Asuka has been a regular guest at the festival – especially in Duisburg’s Landschaftspark, which she and her fan community have grown more than fond of. This year, she is bringing the Goldmund Quartet to a chamber music evening with great piano quintets by Dmitri Shostakovich and Johannes Brahms. What does she have in common with the four musicians? The search for the ideal, but also the sensuality that characterizes the artistic spirit of Goldmund from Hermann Hesse’s classic novel which inspired the quartet’s choice of name.

Mona Asuka

Every artist has her own fuel: a fuel to drive her inspiration and give meaning to her very own artistic quest. In Mona Asuka’s case, it has always been a two-component fuel, consisting of personal experiences and those moments up on stage when she is able to feel the direct joy of the audience. After Asuka’s first experiences in concerts and competitions she first appeared as a soloist with an orchestra when she was thirteen years old. The list of acclaimed orchestras she played with has steadily grown since her years of study with Karl- Heinz Kämmerling in Salzburg and Bernd Glemser in Würzburg. She worked with the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg and the Musikkollegium Winterthur.

Goldmund Quartett

Counted amongst the most exciting young string quartets, the Goldmund Quartet has with its exquisite playing and multi-faceted homogeneity given convincing interpretations of the great classical and modern works of the string quartet literature for more than a decade now. Their inwardness, unbelievably fine intonation, and phrasing worked out to the smallest detail inspire audiences worldwide.
